Sometimes, you get just one shot, or the power of editing tools:
Dusk was settling in as we began to drive out of the forest. Suddenly, the quiet wilderness vibrated with the alarm calls of sambar deer—the unmistakable sign of a predator on the move.
We stopped the car. There was no real time to wait; the gate would close soon. At best, we had a couple of minutes. Seconds ticked by. We waited… then started the engine again and rolled forward slowly.
And then—he appeared.
A tiger emerged from the shadows, paused for a moment to look at us, and melted back into the darkness of the bush.
We stopped, but there was no time. No time to switch off the engine, no time to steady the frame, no time to adjust the shutter speed or push the ISO. Just one frantic shot before we had to race for the gate.
When I had time to check the shot. I was very disappointed as the dismal quality and washed out colors. Then I forgot about it for more than a year ( this was taken in 2024).
Looked at it again last week and felt I love the photo even though the image quality is absolutely poor.
To improve the image I edited it a lot ( heavy duty sharpening, color compensation/correction etc with Adobe Light room) to make it somewhat presentable. In the process all the details were lost. If you enlarge the image you will see how bad it is.
Still I love it. The darkness gives it a touch of mystery….a frozen moment…
