Sometimes I imagine a picture and it happens …
We were driving through the Dhikala grasslands one morning, when I observed a herd of deers grazing unusually close to each other .. looking almost like a low wall of deers ( by the way a group of deers can be referred to as a “rangale” too ), and near the edge of the water of the kalagarh dam were three separate herds of elephants ( apparently a group of elephants can be referred to as a “parade” !).
I tried hard to imagine how it would look, if one of the elephant herd crossed the herd of deers, keeping the deers in the foreground.
Since both the groups were engrossed in grazing and kept their distance, after some time I was resigned to this not happening.
Late in the afternoon we found ourselves again in the grasslands. The day was coming to an end and the afternoon sun was painting the green grasslands in hues of orange and gold. You could just sit in your car and enjoy the beautiful scene of elephants and deers still grazing before returning to forest cover for the night.
Then , I noticed one herd of elephants start their “parade” back to the forest….and they were moving towards the cluster of deers! There was no time to move closer to the scene and take up position to shoot, as the elephants were moving quite briskly.
The only question was, whether the elephants would cross the deers keeping them in the foreground or not.
Happilly…. They did just that !
